The Cairn Terrier emerged hundreds of years ago on the wild, windswept British Isle of Skye and in the Scottish Highlands. Originally used to clear vermin from farms, the best-known Cairn Terrier became a movie star, playing Dorothy’s sidekick in the The Wizard of Oz. The breed is named for a “cairn” or a pile of rocks where his quarry loved to hide.
